PRINCE William is taking girlfriend Kate on a romantic break in the Highlands.He is taking girlfriend Kate Middleton for a romantic Valentine's holiday at a remote Scottish cottage.This weekend will be their first time alone together for five weeks since the prince began officer training at Sandhurst.He will whisk Kate away from London to stay at the house on the edge of the Queen's Balmoral estate.The 23-year-old prince was banned from seeing Kate, 24, during the intensive course he began on January 8.William was given the three bedroom cottage, called Tam-na-Ghar, by his great-grandmother the Queen Mother just before she died.It is in the grounds of Birkhall, her 14 bedroom lodge and 50,000 acre estate on the edge of Balmoral.William and Kate have stayed at the cottage many times since they started dating in 2001.Kate has been formally accepted by the Queen and last summer was invited to have dinner with her and the Duke of Edinburgh for the first time at Balmoral. She has since spent Christmas at Sandringham.Prince Charles fell in love with Birkhall 40 years ago and it was left to him by his grandmother. He feels at ease in the nearby village of Ballater where he and Camilla shop in peace. The couple spend an increasing amount of time at Birkhall. William finds he too is given privacy in the area.Birkhall dates back from 1715 and bought by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert for the playboy Prince of Wales - later Edward VII - in 1849. He never liked it and stayed only once.Since then many royals have honeymooned there, including the Queen and Prince Philip, the Duke and Duchess of Kent, Edward and Sophie Wessex and Charles and Camilla.
