Mel B claims she and ex-lover Eddie Murphy planned to have their baby.
The Spice Girl, who has a three-month-old daughter Angel Iris with the Hollywood actor, has denied claims she deliberately got pregnant to trap Eddie.
Mel - who already has an eight-year-old daughter, Phoenix Chi, with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar - told Essence.com: "This was a completely planned pregnancy. This wasn't some random, 'Oops I fell over and I'm pregnant.' I don't live my life like that. I'm a responsible parent and have been a responsible single parent since I got divorced."
The 32-year-old singer also insists she came off her contraception - an IUD, intra-uterine device, also known as coil - so the then couple could start trying for a baby.
She explained: "As soon as I had my IUD removed we proceeded to get pregnant. It happened quicker than we expected but it was perfect timing."
Mel admits she was completely stunned when Eddie, 46, ended their relationship last December during an interview with a Dutch TV show.
After watching the 'Beverly Hills Cop' actor say he wanted a DNA test after the baby was born to prove he was the father, Mel felt sick, saying: "When I saw it my heart dropped down to my gut."
The British star, also known as Scary Spice, now believes she had a lucky escape because there were aspects of Eddie's lifestyle she was unhappy with.
She said: "I have a baby with this guy so I have to be somewhat respectful. I'll simply say that there were certain things that went on in his house I was uncomfortable with and that would have had to have changed if we were going to live together.
"I have a house where it's about my kids and me. I don't have people knocking on my door at three and four in the morning."

The brunette beauty has joined a list of single Hollywood ladies after reportedly splitting with beau Cash Warren, according to US Weekly.
Alba began dating Warren in 2005 when he was an assistant to director Tim Story on the set of “Fantastic Four.”
The handsome production assistant turned producer and Alba were inseparable for two years until this weekend when, the magazine says, Alba broke up with Warren. On July 22, she reportedly called him and told him “I’m not in love with you anymore,” sources told the magazine.
Warren is said to be distraught. A source told US Weekly the split “happened ... almost out of nowhere,” they said. “He’s totally devastated.”
Jessica Alba’s rep had no comment.

When Matt Damon and pal Ben Affleck were struggling actors, they lived in a modest apartment near Hollywood Boulevard. Damon said he used to look at the stars on the boulevard sidewalk and dreamed of seeing his name on one of them someday. So when it came time to receive one Wednesday, Damon reacted with disbelief.
"A few times in my life I've had these experiences that are just kind of too big to process and this looks like it's going to be one of those times," Damon said during a Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony attended by his wife, mother and a throng of screaming fans.

Pop star Beyonce Knowles insists dancing in high heels is "the easiest thing" - even though the footwear caused her to take a tumble at a concert on Tuesday night (24Jul07).
The singer was about to descend a staircase at Florida's Amway Arena during a performance of Ring The Alarm, when she lost her balance and fell head-first down 15 steps.
But Knowles is adamant mastering the art of moving in high heels on stage is "second nature", despite getting a heel caught in her trenchcoat which caused the fall. She says, "The easiest part is dancing in the heels. I don't even think about it anymore; it's just second nature. But it is difficult to dance, to sing at the same time. I have to make sure I'm in shape and I'm hydrated... I don't want to wear myself out and get exhausted.
After Tuesday's accident, Knowles pleaded with the audience not to post any videos of the accident online; however one fan surrendered footage captured on a camera phone to local TV station WKMG-TV.

According to US magazine, Nicole has granted Diane Sawyer an exclusive interview -- set to air in three parts beginning Aug. 2 on Good Morning America. Nicole is due in January 2008 with the first child for she and boyfriend Joel Madden, though the couple are yet to confirm their baby news.
We can only presume the announcement -- one way or the other -- will come next week!

Jane Pitt, the mother of Brad Pitt reportedly told her son’s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston: “Brad still loves you.” A family insider revealed that Brad’s mom told the ‘Friends’ star whilst the pair were having lunch at Aniston’s Malibu home.
Angelina Jolie is apparently furious with Jane for being so close to Aniston. She also allegedly threatened to dump Pitt after he had a ‘secret meeting’ with Aniston during which he introduced her to his and Jolie’s biological daughter, Shiloh.
“The most difficult thing for Jen was when Jane told her ‘I know Brad still loves you.’ That really blew Jen away,” the family friend said. “Although she’s reluctant to admit it, the fact that Brad still loves her gives her new hope that they can at least have a close friendship.”
The friend adds that it would make Jane so happy. “I think she wants Jennifer to understand that Brad isn’t a heartless man,” says the insider. “After all they went through; he still has strong feelings for her.”
