Hollywood stunner Angelina Jolie has bared all in her new role as a seductive water demon in the big-screen adaptation of epic Old English poem Beowulf.

The 32-year-old actress, who plays the mother of evil giant Grendel, appears in the £80 million animated film wearing just a long braid, covered in gold paint and with hooves instead of feet.

In one scene, a digitally enhanced Jolie rises from a pool with droplets of water dripping down her every curve and morphs into a monster.

Director Robert Zemeckis, of Back to the Future and Forrest Gump fame, has employed the “motion capture” technology used to create Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which transforms live acting into computer animation.

A 20 minute preview was shown last week at Comic-Con, a trade show in San Diego, California. The film tells the tale of a mighty warrior who slays the demon Grendel and incurs the wrath of its monstrous yet seductive mother.

British actor Ray Winstone stars as Beowulf and Anthony Hopkins takes the role of King Hrothgar, whose hall is under attack by Grendel. The cast also includes Robin Wright Penn and John Malkovich.

Brad Pitt's lover employed a voice coach and an Anglo-Saxon expert to help her with her accent. The reaction to her performance, in which she says some genuine words of Old English, has been mixed.

Some critics say they were confused by the Old English, which was the language of the Anglo-Saxons.

Others described the sound as a “strong Yorkshire accent” while one said she was “a bit Irish, maybe”, reports The Times.

Beowulf dates back to around the 7th or the 8th century and is believed to have been composed in East Anglia.
