The pair hooked up in the summer of 2007 but Duff, big sister to Hilary, ditched the son of Mary Steenburgen and Malcolm McDowell in November.
But now sources claim Duff, 22, is changing her mind when she heard rumors McDowell, 24 was romancing Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere.
A friend tells the National Enquirer, “She did an about face and began calling Charlie non-stop, telling him she’d made a huge mistake.”
“He told Haylie he’d moved on and wanted nothing more to do with her,” the friend says.

Now, we weren't previously all that enthused about the movie, but the addition of Kurkova definitely makes the eye candy factor of the project leap off the screen. Not that Cover Girl has ever been a huge part of the team, but how can you squander a beauty like that by giving her less screen time. Answer? You can't. And that's good news.

The new issue of Rolling Stone offers some insight into what has lead to Britney Spears’ downward spiral.
As a teen, the singer’s mother, Lynne, allowed her to get breast implants. But after going under the knife, “she regretted the implants, particularly because her chest was still growing,” a friend says. “When her natural breasts became larger, she had the implants removed.” But Spears kept the surgery a secret. Adds the friend, “When other girls did their boobs [they admitted it] and moved on, but Britney was brought up to lie about herself.”

Paris Hilton is planning to celebrate her 27th birthday by performing with burlesque troupe the Pussycat Dolls in Las Vegas.
The sexy socialite will host an '80s-theme party at the Los Angeles club Area this weekend before heading off to Sin City in her underwear.
She says, "I'm going to perform with the Pussycat Dolls. I'm going to go to Pure and LAX."
Hilton turns 27 on February 17 and admits there's only one major thing on her wish list -- an English lover.
She adds, "There are cute boys in London. I have to go over there and check them out."

German company Simba Toys has confirmed it is creating toy dolls based on Paris Hilton.
The US socialite has helped style the products, which will come with silver highlights, mini-skirts, evening dresses and a mini MP3 player.
Juergen Deschner, the firm's executive, has confirmed the dolls will go on sale around Europe later this year.
The first dolls were sold at Germany's Nuremberg Toy Fair on Wednesday.
Hilton has signed a 2-year deal with Simba.
The Simple Life star previously turned down an offer to have a sex doll made in her image.

The parents of Britney Spears have said they fear her life is now at risk, after she was released from a hospital where she was receiving psychiatric care.
"We are deeply concerned about our daughter's safety and vulnerability and we believe her life is presently at risk," Jamie and Lynn Spears have said in a joint statement.
They have said they were "extremely disappointed" to hear that she had been released.
They have said her doctors had recommended that she remain in care.
Spears was released earlier today after six days in hospital.
Doctors had determined Spears no longer posed a legal danger to herself or to others, and she could no longer be held against her will, TMZ.com reported.
Only this week doctors won an extra two weeks to detain the star after her life went into a dramatic freefall in recent months - most notably with the loss of custody of her two young sons.
However TMZ said it had been anticipated that the UCLA Medical Centre would probably release her early "because she became co-operative and relatively stable".
