On the transition to motherhood:
I believe that change keeps you young. I’m a late bloomer; I always have been. I’m 41, and I know a lot of women think that this is the time when you start getting depressed. To that I say, “No, no, no, no, no!” I’m having the best time of my life.
The best thing that’s ever happened to me is this thing that has happened to so many women, which is having a baby. Every second is magical, every smile.
I cannot get enough of it, because I am not sitting here thinking, "What am I going to do with my life?" I’ve already established my career. I think it’s very good to have a child at this age. I’m in a great place.
On her pregnancy:
I really embraced pregnancy. I enjoyed it. It came to me and I said, “OK, this is where I go now.” I had diabetes while I was pregnant. I became huge. And I said, “This is what it takes for me to have this baby, and I really want it.”
Then you don’t know if it’s going to be healthy; you are completely out of control. So the experience really makes you humble.
On what has surprised her most:
Well, I have to confess something -- I wanted a boy. At the beginning I did. Probably because I was afraid. I think women suffer a bit more than boys, and there is always conflict between mothers and daughters.
But now that she’s here, I’m so happy she’s a girl. And I can’t imagine there ever being conflict between us, because I’m in a state of innocence where I love everything she does. If she does a poop and I have to change the diaper, I love that moment!
On how Valentina has changed her personally:
I don’t remember very well who I was before. Part of me feels like it’s so new and so strange to have a baby, and part of me feels like I’ve known [her] face forever. Somehow I am really relaxed within the chaos of having a baby -- and anyone who’s a mother knows it’s very hard to relax, because there is so much to do and worry about!
I just feel so fortunate to be her mother, and it makes me excited about the rest of my life, because I will get to witness her transformation every day. I feel I was born to have this girl.
On how François is with Valentina:
He warned me from the beginning that he gets very nervous when babies are so little -- he thinks he’s going to break them! But he plays with her, sleeps with her, loves her, kisses her. He’s not obsessed like me. But he’s had two [babies] before!
How their relationship works -- François lives in Paris, Salma in LA.
To most women it’s crazy. But every relationship is unique, and in order to make it work you have to be willing to listen -- not only to your partner, but to the relationship itself. You have to be brave enough to say, “This is who we are: We might not look like the perfect couple, or like our parents did, but this is our love story.”
On if she wishes they could be together more often:
Wishing is a good thing. But wishing you could be together more is so much better than wishing you could get the hell away from someone. [laughs]
François is very generous in his respect for me: He not only gets out of my way, but he’s completely supportive. He pushes me in the right direction. He challenges me with a sense of humor.
I feel lucky to have found a man who is so smart and successful in his own right, so there is no competition between us. He understands I was happy and had a great life before I met him.
On if marriage is something she cares about -- she and François are currently engaged:
Right now I am just enjoying my baby. Do I think we are going to get married? Probably. Will it make a difference? I hope not.
I don’t have a need for marriage. You want to grow old with someone, you want to have a partner and to have children -- we have all those things. Some people need the commitment. Maybe we’ll just make the party!
On her hopes for Valentina:
Life will always be a struggle, and we will always have to work on making the world a better place. But then, working at it is what brings people together.
I hope Valentina will be much more involved than I have been, and smarter about it than I was, because she will grow up in the middle of our conversation and it will be a part of her everyday life. I will make sure she has activists and artists to talk to, and she is very lucky in that respect, because I’ve surrounded myself with extraordinary human beings in many different areas. She will grow up listening to conversations that she’ll be privileged to hear.
Perfection is the end of evolution. So there will always be something to work on. And what’s great is that I know she’ll be part of it.

It’s a great day for Eva Mendes, which celebrates today her birthday. After her “holiday” at the rehab last week, Eva seems doing great.

Kohl's Corp. has teamed with singer Avril Lavigne to create a new line of teen clothing that will be in stores for the back-to-school selling season.
The 23-year-old pop star will promote her line, called Abbey Dawn, in an ad campaign that Kohl's will launch this summer, and she will wear the clothes onstage, according to Don Brennan, Kohl's senior executive vice president.
Abbey Dawn is a nickname that the Canadian singer's father gave her as a child, Brennan said.
The Abbey Dawn line will be designed and produced by Jerry Leigh, a California-based apparel company. Lavigne's personal style will be the inspiration for the designs, Brennan said.
The first Abbey Dawn styles will be in all Kohl's Department Stores in July. One collection, which includes jewelry, will feature bold colors and mix-and-match prints. The other is described as a "fusion of ska, reggae and skater, with a balance of traditional tartan plaids, checks and stripes."
The clothes will be aimed at high school girls, priced from $24 to $48, at the mid-range of apparel prices at Kohl's. New styles will be introduced every 60 days.

In a shocking world exclusive, The NATIONAL ENQUIRER has uncovered the devastating news that the beloved Hollywood actor and dancer was diagnosed in late January with pancreatic cancer that has spread to other organs.

For the past month, Patrick, 55, has been traveling to Stanford University's prestigious cancer center in Palo Alto for radical chemotherapy, but his doctors are no longer optimistic that the treatments will be successful.
Patrick and his wife Lisa Niemi — who both have pilot's licenses — have been flying their private Beechcraft plane into Palo Alto's airport, minutes away from the Stanford Cancer Center, where the actor has received outpatient treatment.
He received three doses of chemotherapy and the tumor shrank, but less than his doctors had hoped for — and Patrick was told he should prepare for the end.
"He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short - they held out little hope for a cure," said an insider.
The man who danced into the hearts of audiences worldwide in the 1980s in Dirty Dancing and then broke them in the poignant love story Ghost in the early '90s has lost more than 20 pounds in the past few weeks and is restricted to a liquid diet because he has trouble keeping down solid food, added the insider.

Rocker Sheryl Crow has exploded the myth that Brad Pitt dumped then-wife Jennifer Aniston to romance Angelina Jolie, insisting her pal ditched the movie hunk - and not the other way around.
Despite the widely held belief the pair's marriage ended in 2005 - after Pitt left Aniston - Crow insists she and Aniston bonded after the former 'Friends' star dumped Pitt and she split from her fiance, cyclist Lance Armstrong.
Crow insists: "For both of us, the perceived idea is that, in our big relationships, we both got dumped. Believe me, this is not true.
"Neither one of us has ever gotten dumped. No one ever knows what goes on in relationships.
"Unfortunately, for some people like Jennifer and me, so much is written about things that you don't say, and so many emotions are attributed to you that you haven't had."
Friends have backed up Crow's claim - one pal telling the National Enquirer: "Once Jen saw the writing on the wall, she dumped Brad.
"She took a cold, hard look at her marriage and realised it was irretrievably broken. She and Brad had vastly different personal agendas and feelings about love, career and having a family."

Morning rush hour customers at McDonald’s enjoyed the celebrity treatment – literally – as Grammy-award winning R&B songstress Ciara took breakfast orders at the McDonald’s® 50th Anniversary Restaurant in downtown Chicago. To end a two-day national event, where McDonald’s estimates restaurants gave away over two million of its new breakfast menu item, the McSkillet Burrito, Ciara worked the counter and drive-thru for two hours, serving hundreds of customers.
“I think that out of the one million burritos that McDonald’s served, I handed out somewhere around a couple of hundred,” joked Ciara.
McDonald’s breakfast lovers had no clue Ciara was behind the counter, as the location of where she would work that morning was kept secret. Neil Golden, Chief Marketing Officer McDonald’s says if Ciara ever departs from her singing career, she’d definitely have a job at McDonald’s. “If we could get Ciara to be one of our crew people, we would take her in a heart beat and she would have a brilliant future,” said Golden.

Christina Aguilera looks stunning in the new ad campaign for jewellery designer Stephen Webster.
The singer was the inspiration behind the London based designer's new sterling silver range of designs, which comprises of two lines entitled Shattered and Superstud.
"She was a real coup for us. She's our longest-term regular client and the right age for the brand," said Webster.
"We think she's in the most glamorous period of her life right now, and she is the main source of inspiration behind the collection."
"Working together on this campaign and collection has been an incredible experience. I am honoured to be a part of it all," added Christina.
The new image were shot by Vincent Peters, and will be seen in fashion magazines from this month.

The shady Sam Lutfi is reportedly going to fight the restraining order against him by getting Britney Spears to take the stand in court.
This is according to OK! Magazine, however, so we all know it won’t happen in a million years. But wouldn’t it be great?
Can’t you just see Osama Lutfi up there, lookin’ all evil and glaring at his former meal ticket, getting more furious by the second as his ass gets grilled by Britney Spears’ attorneys, then lashing out at America and the world?
According to “reports,” Sam Lutfi has contacted Brit through a third-party and asked her to help him fight the restraining order, which had been sought - and obtained - by Britney Spears’ parents and their lawyers.
As far as we know, Sam and Britney have not seen each other since the order was handed down. According to OK!, Sam Lutfi reportedly said:
“I am going to call Britney to the stand so she can tell the world how I was helping her. I am innocent. I am Britney’s friend and would never hurt her.”
Lutfi’s spokesman, Michael Sands, said he does intend to fight it: “Sam is a good guy who does not agree with this restraining order.”
The seedy one, who is the subject of a police investigation regarding his alleged drugging of Spears, will apparently fight it out in court on March 17.
Sam will allege that he didn’t drug Britney as Lynne Spears alleges, and that she actually had access to drugs from other visitors that came to the house.
