Vivid Entertainment is planning to release a Jimi Hendrix sex tape, although there seems to be some doubt regarding whether it's actually him in the video.
The film shows a naked man who resembles Hendrix, the guitar legend who died in 1970, wearing a bandanna in his Afro, having sex with two brunettes in a dimly lighted bedroom. His full face appears on screen for only a few seconds, with his eyes closed. In other portions there are flashes of his profile. But his hands, bedecked with rings, roam large on the screen at times. The film has no audio.
Vivid, a large maker of pornographic movies that is releasing the film this week, has created a 45-minute DVD, called “Jimi Hendrix the Sex Tape,” that combines 11 minutes of sex footage with a retrospective of Hendrix’s career in the 1960s (but with none of his music included). The company, which has also released tapes of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, Kim Kardashian and others, will sell it for $39.95 in stores and over the Internet, and will also offer the film for downloading.
But the identity of the man in the film, which has circulated among Hendrix aficionados for years, is fiercely disputed by experts and former associates. And the DVD arrives on the heels of a string of hoaxes involving star look-alikes and one other dead superstar. Internet news reports recently cast doubt on the claims of a New York collectibles dealer who said he brokered the sale of an explicit Marilyn Monroe film.

Singer Cher has revealed that she had a brief fling with actor Tom Cruise.
According to the Daily Mail, the singer had an affair with Cruise, who is 16 years her junior, in 1986 at the start of his career.
At the time Cher was 39-years-old and 23-year-old Cruise had released his hit film 'Risky Business' and was working on 'Top Gun'.
The paper reported that Cher, now 61, told Oprah Winfrey: "I was crazy about him."
In the show, which will go to air in the US next month, she spoke of Cruise, now 45, as an awkward young man and she said: "He was shy."
Speaking about the affair, during an interview publicising her upcoming run of shows in Las Vegas, she said: "It could have been a great big romance because I was crazy for him".
She told Oprah she was currently single and broke up with her last serious boyfriend, actor Rob Camilletti, almost 15 years ago.
Cher added: "Dating is a strange thing. It's not every man who can be comfortable with me. Being Cher is a hard thing and difficult for him to hold his place."

Eva Longoria Parker has denied reports that she's set to quit her role on television's 'Desperate Housewives' to chase a career on the big screen.
Longoria Parker shot to fame playing the wealthy Gabriel Solis in the hit tv show and has successfully made the transition into movies starring in 'The Sentinel' alongside Kiefer Sutherland.
The 33-year-old denies she's leaving the show telling Britain's Heat magazine that, "I would be insane to do that. I’m of the opinion that the show will still be running for another five years, at least."
She adds, "Marc Cherry (the creator of 'Desperate Housewives') has all these incredible ideas and plot twists planned for the coming years, and I’m convinced the show will be a success as long as he’s involved."

Gwyneth Paltrow's pay cheque for Iron Man will be her first in six years, the Hollywood actress has revealed.
The star said she got sick of making big budget films and started opting for smaller, independent projects – but the downside was that she was expected to work for free.
And Paltrow insists that the Iron Man blockbuster, in which she stars as Virginia "Pepper" Potts alongside Robert Downey Jr, is the first time since then that she has actually been paid for her services.
She says: "I basically stopped making money from films in 2002. All the things I have done since then have been things I really wanted to do. And I have not made money from them."
