Hicks will join the cast of the show, whose leads were chosen by viewers of the NBC talent competition "Grease: You're the One That I Want" in 2007, on June 6, following in the tradition of an eclectic list of celebrities who have played the role -- among them jazz notable Al Jarreau and rock 'n' roll icon Chubby Checker in a 1990s revival.
Some of the other "Idol" contestants who have taken their talents to Broadway, with varying degrees of success, are 2005 winner Fantasia Barrino ("The Color Purple"), 2005 finalist Diana DeGarmo ("Hairspray") and 2003 finalist Josh Strickland (Disney's "Tarzan").

While Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt never actually saw the alleged sex tape featuring The Hills Lauren Conrad and her ex-beau Jason Wahler, they insist that it did in fact exist at one point.
"It was not a rumor, that's all I have to say," said Montag during a pre-taped appearance on broadcast of the syndicated The Tyra Banks Show. "From what I heard from confirmed sources is that her ex-boyfriend was going around trying to sell it."
Conrad has continuously insisted that a sex tape with her and Wahler does not exist, and has also previously alleged her much publicized ongoing tiff with Montag began when she and Pratt began spreading rumors about the alleged sex tape.
"I didn't see it. I never saw it," Montag told Banks about the tape. "But I knew there was something, and I was like, 'You've got to figure it out.' Then it came out, and it was blamed on me. I was the only one trying to help her through the situation."
When pressed by Banks about being sure the tape exists, Montag responded, "I'm not really allowed to elaborate" -- however nothing confined Pratt.
"I know for 100% fact that it did exist -- 1,000%," he said. "I know for a fact, and I would take a lie-detector test because I know."
While Pratt said he also never actually saw it, he insisted it once existed and added he suspects why Conrad keeps denying it.
"She can blame it on us because she wants to keep her image clean," he told Banks. "That's fine, we're your scapegoat villains. What are we going to do?"
During an interview on American Idol host Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show, Pratt reiterated that the sex tape did exist at one point.
"I just wanted to address something here -- there were never rumors," said Pratt. "The bottom line is, I heard L.C. crying about this sex tape -- that Jason Wahler did have and was trying to sell -- so many times for six months, and Heidi trying to get it back with L.C.. But they never got it back. So there's no rumors, bottom line. Heidi never made something up. Jason and L.C. had this, Jason was trying to sell it, Heidi tried to get it back with Lauren. They blame Heidi once it goes public."
Despite Montag and Conrad's apparently unsuccessful attempt to recover the tape, Pratt said he knows why the footage it contained never went public.
"[Conrad's] parents called [Wahler's] parents and shut it down," he said. "It's that simple."

Shakira, one of the most successful Spanish singers of all time, reunited with Alejandro Sanz and other Latin American singers to raise awareness about childhood poverty in Latin America. Two simultaneous benefit concerts dedicated to the same cause took place on Saturday in Mexico City and Buenos Aires. Shakira and Sanz performed in Buenos Aires. A wealth of other Latin American singers performed, including Gustavo Cerati, Juan Luis Guerra, Juanes, MANÁ, Miguel Bosé, and Ricky Martin.
More than 60 percent of the 52 million children in Latin America live in poverty. All proceeds from the concerts will benefit ALAS (Latin America in Solidarity Action); the Spanish word ''alas'' means ''wings'' in English. ALAS is a nonprofit organization that presses governments and businesses to donate funds to improve the lives of Latin American children living in poverty. Shakira helped raise $200 million in donations from Carlos Slim and Howard Buffett for ALAS.
In an interview with Reuters, Shakira expressed her motivation to help her community. ''Artists have a tremendous power to communicate, to reach people, to woo, to inspire. It's an important and fundamental part of my life to be able to use my public profile to make certain issues visible, issues that are more important than my own career, that are more urgent and need immediate attention.'' In addition to being a spokesperson for ALAS, Shakira is the founder and honorary president of Pies Descalzos, an organization dedicated to enriching the education of Columbia's children.
Eva Longoria is reportedly desperate to have a baby.
The 'Desperate Housewives' star is said to be so intent on having children that she has even threatened to leave her basketball player husband Tony Parker unless he gives in to her demands.
A source close to the couple said: "Tony isn't ready for a baby. He's much younger than Eva and at the top of his profession, while Eva is in her 'baby prime' as she calls it. She even threatened to leave him twice before he agreed."
Friends of the 32-year-old actress say she is definitely the more dominant person in her relationship.
The source added: "Eva wears the trousers in the relationship and if she wants a baby, chances are that Tony won't have much say in the matter."
Eva and Tony married in a star-studded ceremony in Paris, France, last July.
Eva recently expressed a desire to learn French, so she can converse properly with French-born Tony's family.
She said: "I've sworn to myself that I'm going to be able to speak passable French this year. I want to be able to understand Tony when he speaks French with his family and friends. Even though Tony always serves as a translator for me, I feel a bit isolated from his family and I want to overcome that and feel closer to them by learning the language."
