Actress-turned-singer Scarlett Johansson's debut album has received a series of scathing reviews from music critics, who have branded the star's recordings "fussy and forgettable."
The star released her CD "Anywhere I Lay My Head," a collection of Tom Waits covers, this week.
But several reviews of the 40-minute-long disc have been lukewarm, with commentators reserving their harshest criticism for Johansson's vocal abilities.
Rolling Stone, which gave Johansson a mediocre 2.5 stars out of 5, complains, "Johansson's voice is unremarkable and her pitch sometimes unsteady; she's a faintly goth Marilyn Manson lost in a sonic fog."
Entertainment Weekly was also less than complimentary, giving the project an average "C" grade and remarking that her "expressionless voice" was concealed "deeply in the druggy ambiance."
The album, released on Rhino Records, contains 10 Waits covers with the exception of one original composition co-written by 23-year-old Johansson and TV on the Radio guitarist/keyboardist David Andrew Sitek. Rocker David Bowie contributes backing vocals on two of the tracks.

The R+B superstar, who was raised to be a devout Christian, insists she must now avoid her local church in Houston, Texas, because she hates drawing attention to herself and disrupting religious ceremonies.
She says, "I can't really go to church any more, which is a shame. People have come up to me in church during the sermon and, of course, people watch everything I do. They come up and take my picture on their mobile phones. They're very nice, but I think God understands if I miss Sunday service."

Lindsay Lohan's mother, Dina, has banned her movie-star daughter from making an appearance on her upcoming reality TV show, because she insists it would be bad for her career.
Dina, 45, will front the upcoming eight-episode series "Living Lohan," which will follow the manager-mom as she navigates the careers of her two younger children, Ali, 14, and Cody, 11.
But fans of her most famous daughter needn't tune in, hoping to catch a glimpse of the "Mean Girls" star: Lindsay won't be appearing.
Dina says, "I told Lindsay I don't want her on the show right now. Doing reality TV would almost be taking a step backward as far as her career."
Lindsay's father, Michael Lohan, has previously warned the Lindsay to stay away from her mother's reality show, fearing Dina would use the 21-year-old to further her own career in the entertainment industry.
But Lohan's mother insists her intentions are genuine: "I did this to defuse the rumors about my family. The media has just been so horrific to us over the past two years. I just want to get the message across that we are a normal family."
The new reality show will premiere this weekend.

The so-called singer is going on tour this summer and she is set to play state fairs and House of Blues venues across America. Ashlee went on a club tour earlier this year. When she toured her last album, she played large venues. Now, she’s at a House of Blues near you. That has to hurt.
Her tour schedule covers about a month kicking off on June 9th at the House of Blues in Chicago and wrapping up on July 1st at Capital One Bank Theatre at Westbury, New York.

Britney Spears' father has demanded compensation from his daughter.
A court has ruled that Britney Spears must hand over $10,000 to father Jamie - as compensation for lost earnings after he quit his job to look after her.
This week an L.A. court approved his application for $2,600 a week for loss of earnings in February.
The court papers stated: "As a result of the responsibilities Mr Spears has assumed as Temporary Conservator of the Person and Temporary Co-Conservator of the Estate, he has been unable to continue his prior employment."
Since Jamie was made a conservator of Britney's estate, his troubled daughter has made tentative steps towards getting her personal and professional life back on track.
