Los Angeles fire Capt. Frank Reynoso says the blaze was reported just before dawn Sunday on a sound stage on a back lot. There are no immediate reports of injuries.
Reynoso says filming could have been going on at the time and that there has been at least one explosion.
He says the fire is contained to the back lot, and firefighters are working to ensure the flames don't spread to nearby brush. Helicopters are dropping water onto the burning structures.
About 100 city and county firefighters are helping studio firefighters tackle the blaze.

The pair has remained coy about their romance, despite being spotted kissing numerous times.
However, money was no issue when they bought the expensive gifts from jeweller Jason Arasheben's exclusive Beverly Hills store.
Arasheben tells the News of the World: "Chris went for the heart theme while Rihanna chose a diamond-encrusted cross to give to him."

Hilary Duff has said she doesn’t mind being considered the “good girl” in comparison to her party-hearty Hollywood contemporaries.
She told AOL recently: “I know people think I’m a good girl and I’m not going to fight it and be like, ‘I’m not, I’m bad.’
“I don’t really care that [people] think that [but] I’d rather them think that than think I’m like everyone else.”
She said she’d much rather be like Natalie Portman, who is known more for her career than her private life: “It comes down to that I want people to focus on my work and I want to have my life completely separate from that.
“I love Natalie Portman so much because people don’t look at her as a good girl but they look at her and she’s a respected actress. Who knows what she does in her personal life?”

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is single again after wrapping up divorce proceedings with his now ex-wife Dany Garcia.
The wrestler-turned-movie star split from Garcia earlier this year (07) after ten years of marriage and their divorce was made final last week (beg19May08).
The former couple have a seven-year-old daughter, Simone, and Johnson will pay $22,000 a month in child support, according to papers filed at Miami Dade County Court in Florida.
Both parents will share custody and also pay $5,000 each a month into a trust fund to cover Simone's education, according to TMZ.

The 39-year-old actress' relationship with Mayer, 30, was made public last month when the pair were photographed cuddling by a pool in Miami, where Aniston has been filming her new movie Marley & Me with Owen Wilson.
After taking their cross-State romance from Miami to New York, Aniston and Mayer made their Los Angeles debut as a couple with a laid-back romantic weekend.
On Sunday, Mayer drove his new girlfriend to the beachside Malibu home of her closest pal and ex-Friends co-star Cox and her husband David Arquette for an evening dinner.
Complimenting her new boyfriend's laid back style, Aniston sported a white vest and blue cardigan with sunglasses as they enjoyed the sunny day.
Cox, 43, is said to be very protective of Aniston, who she supported following her high-profile marriage split with Brad Pitt in 2005.
The Dirt actress was rumoured to have disapproved of Aniston's last long-term boyfriend Vince Vaughn, who she dated for 18 months before splitting in December 2006.
On Saturday night, Aniston and Mayer enjoyed an intimate meal at the exclusive Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, before the tattooed rocker drove them home to the actress' mansion in the Hollywood hills.
The following day, Mayer took the steering wheel again as they rode in his Porsche Cayenne Turbo to the Cox-Arquettes' gated beachside home, where they live with their young daughter Coco, who is Aniston's goddaughter.
