Jessica Simpson's dad, Joe, has hit out at claims he prompted her split from football player Tony Romo by interfering with her love life.
Although neither party has confirmed their split, tabloids claim they ended their relationship last month because Romo grew sick of Joe meddling with their romance.
It is claimed he planned to sell an exclusive story about their engagement, reports Us Weekly.
But Joe, who is also Jessica and sister Ashlee's manager, insists he hasn't stepped over the line. He tells the magazine, "It's unfair to criticize me for what every manager does for his or her clients. And in this business, where people can quickly turn on you, who better than a parent to be working for his children?
"A parent will always be there for his kids and never give up on them. I work hard seven days a week for my girls because I love them. Why in the world would I ever want to do anything that would hurt my children?"

Carmen Electra has laughed off reports she is getting cold feet about marrying former KORN guitarist Rob Patterson, insisting she in no hurry to walk down the aisle.
The Scary Movie star became engaged to the rock musician during the weekend of her 36th birthday (20Apr08) - and has faced constant questioning about when the big day will be.
Carmen Electra tells People.com, "It's funny, everyone else puts so much pressure, (asking), 'When are you getting married?'
"If it was up to everybody else, we'd be married and divorced already."
The twice-divorced model/actress recently travelled to Boston, Massachusetts to meet Patterson's parents.
She adds, "We're taking it slow, and we're happy."

Paris Hilton has sparked pregnancy rumours.
The hotel heiress - who is currently dating Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden - seemed to be sporting a swollen stomach as she arrived at Los Angeles' Crown Bar in a tight green satin dress recently.
An onlooker said: "Paris definitely looked a lot bigger than she usually looks. She is either pregnant or had eaten a massive meal!"
The 27-year-old beauty has made no secret of her desire to have children.
Speaking earlier this year, she said: "I do want a baby, pretty soon. Not yet because I'm so busy, but next year."
