Tom Hanks has been banned from filming in Roman churches.
The actor is currently shooting 'Angels and Demons' - the prequel to 'The Da Vinci Code', the movie based on Dan Brown's smash hit novel - with director Ron Howard, but Rome church officials have ruled they cannot stage scenes in two of the city's places of worship.
A spokesperson for the Catholic Church said they had immediately declined the requests to film in Santa Maria del Popolo and Santa Maria della Vittoria churches because the movies challenge Catholic beliefs.
Church official Monsignor Marco Fibbi said: "It's a film that treats religious issues in a way that contrasts with common religious sentiment. We would be helping them create a work that might well be beautiful but that does not conform to our views."
'The Da Vinci Code' book angered the Catholic Church when it was released as it suggested Jesus married Mary Magdalene and raised a family with her. It also claimed the Holy Grail - which is believed to be the cup used by Jesus at the Last Supper - was in fact the bloodline of Jesus.
The movie's crew have been granted permission to film the churches exteriors.

"You had to run in slow motion and swim in slow motion and then smile. I know how to work a defibrillator!"
Pamela also said she has kept the famous red swimsuit from the programme to wear in the bedroom.
She added: "I have one swimsuit left. I wear it. I use it for my boyfriend and stuff. In the shower and then I run in slow motion and then give my friends mouth to mouth resuscitation!
"I do miss it - it's the best job in the world."

A stunning Eva Mendes stopped for the paparazzi while on the red carpet at the AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards gala in LA.
She showed great style in a strapless black gown.
Her rep tells Us Weekly, "Amy was at home this afternoon when she briefly fainted. Fortunately, her manager’s assistant was there to stop her falling."
"She quickly recovered and her father Mitch took her to hospital as a precaution."
"Doctors are unsure of the cause of the incident and Amy is currently undergoing tests."
Unsure of the cause? Hmm….we have a couple of theories…
He rep says she "may be kept in [the hospital] overnight for observation."
The 24-year-old was arrested on suspicion of drug use last month and questioned by the cops for more than nine hours about video footage showing her allegedly smoking a crack pipe.

Britney Spears is to escape charges after running over the foot of a photographer last year (Nov07).
Los Angeles police officials have determined the pop star was not at fault and the evidence doesn't prove that Spears left the scene of the accident, as the paparazzo claimed in his police report.
In documents obtained by TMZ.com, authorities rule the singer had no idea she had run over a photographer's foot.

Kid Rock was forced to pull out of a scheduled appearance at the Download Festival in the UK after being rushed to hospital.
According to reports, the rocker was taken for treatment after he began to suffer from stomach cramps and dehydration.
A festival organiser reportedly told celebrity website TMZ.com: "Kid Rock is not very well - we've had to rush him to hospital... he apologises to fans."

MTV star Tila Tequila has said she thinks she played a part in the Californian Superior Court’s recent decision to drop its ban on gay marriage.
Tila’s show A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila featured 32 contestants - 16 male and 16 female - competing for Tila’s affections and she believes it helped normalise the idea of bisexuality.
She told Us Weekly recently: “It is because of me — I definitely think [my show] has helped the movement.
“Before it came out, everyone was still a little apprehensive about [same sex relationships].
“Then they realized, ‘Wow, everyone is really into this stuff, and it is fine.’ The next thing you know, [gay marriage] is legal.”
