Numerous reports have put his age between 25 to 35 years old. In 2006, he gave his age as 25. But now, he claims his birth certificate shows he was born on April 16, 1977, which would make him 31.

The Senegalese-American singer, born Aliaune Thiam, was accused of picking up a teenage boy and throwing him off the stage during a June 2007 concert at a minor league baseball stadium near Poughkeepsie. Another concertgoer said she suffered a concussion when the teen landed on her.
Akon released his third album, Freedom, earlier this month.

A canopy collapsed at an Akon concert at Emory University in Atlanta. The injuries occurred while crews were working about to set up lights on the stage for tonight’s Fall Band Party starring Akon. His drummer and two or three people, including students, were injured. Both fire trucks and ambulances responded to the scene. The concert has been cancelled. It seems no matter where Akon goes tragedy follows.

This kid at a concert ( KFEST 2007 ), threw some ball at akon's face. Akon got mad and sent his bouncer into the crowd, and brought him on stage and humilated him by throwing him back into the crowd.
R&B singer Akon has apologised to teenage fan Danah Alleyne following their raunchy dance at a Trinidad concert last month (Apr07), insisting he had no idea how young she was.
The Smack That singer hit controversy when he performed a sexy sequence with 14-year-old Alleyne at a gig on 12 April (07), prompting the Caribbean country's Prime Minister to order a formal investigation into the incident.
Earlier this week (begs07May07) communications firm Verizon dropped their sponsorship of his tour with Gwen Stefani following the furore.
In a statement released last night (09May07), Akon says, "I want to sincerely apologise for the embarrassment and any pain I've caused to the young woman who joined me onstage, her family and the Trinidad community for the events at my concert.
"It was never my intention to embarrass or take advantage of my fans in any way, especially those under the age of 18. That is why we tried to make sure that the club did not admit anyone under 18 in the audience. Somehow, that standard was not met."
