Amy Winehouse "died alone in bed" before she was found to be unresponsive by a bodyguard, according to the tragic star's representative.
The Rehab singer was found dead at her north London home on Saturday afternoon at the age of 27.
It has since been reported that the star, who battled years of substance abuse, had suffered a drugs and drink overdose after a heavy night of partying on Friday.
But the late singer's publicist, Chris Goodman, insists there "was no wild party" and Winehouse spent her last hours with her minder Andrew Morris before going to bed alone - only to die in her sleep.
"At this stage no one knows how she died," Goodman said.
"There has been speculation that she had taken drugs and we can't say anything until the autopsy has been done. There was no wild party, she died alone in bed.
"Amy was on her own at home apart from a security guard who we had appointed to help look after her over the past couple of years.
"She was in her bedroom after saying she wanted to sleep and when he went to wake her he found she wasn't breathing. He called the emergency services straight away. He was very shocked."
Britain's The Sun newspaper claims a doctor employed by the star's record label had given Winehouse the all-clear during a routine check on Friday.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on Monday to determine the cause of death.

Amy Winehouse's father has dismissed rumours the British singer pumped up her pout with cosmetic surgery when she was admitted to hospital earlier this month (Apr10).
The Back to Black hitmaker was hospitalised in London last week (08Apr10) after suffering chest pains, and was kept in overnight while doctors carried out a series of tests.
The singer, who recently underwent breast enlargement surgery, was released soon after and was spotted partying with pal Mark Ronson.
She was snapped with noticeably fuller lips, prompting speculation she had enlisted the help of doctors to improve her smile with injectable fillers during her hospital stay.
But her father Mitch is keen to refute the rumours.
He tells Britain's The Sun, "Are you joking? Do me a favour! Of course she hasn't had her lips done.
"She had her boobs done three months ago. Everyone knows that. She hasn't had anything else done since, certainly not her lips."

British singer Amy Winehouse was admitted to hospital on Thursday night after reportedly experiencing more problems following her recent breast enlargement operation.
The "Back to Black" hitmaker was hospitalized in London after suffering chest pains, and was kept overnight while doctors carried out a series of tests, according to British newspaper The Sun.
Winehouse was previously treated by medics in November after experiencing complications following her breast enhancement the previous month, and the singer is now said to be waiting for a decision on whether she needs to have the implants removed.
A source tells The Sun, "Amy was in agony and became convinced it was something to do with her boobs. She thought she would leave it for a while but the pain got worse. She went into the clinic on Thursday and they kept her under observation.
"She is waiting for a decision on whether the implants have to come out or not. Amy loves her curves and would hate to have to have them taken out. She is still her bubbly self but she is worried."
