Jessica Simpson is not the best singer in Tony Romo's ears. Reports say the footballer had compared his current girlfriend's singing ability to his ex Carrie Underwood's, and he even told her to her face what he thinks.
"[Tony] really hurt Jess' feelings," a source tells OK! magazine. "She tried to laugh it off in Hawaii, but she pouted whenever she heard Carrie's songs playing."
Not only that, Romo apparently isn't very supportive of Simpson's move to switch from pop to country. He thinks that she would have trouble gaining audience.
"Tony said he thought Jess would have trouble winning over audiences with her upcoming country CD," the source adds.
And it's not only her beau that has doubts about Simpson's country venture. Rascal Flatts lead Gary LeVox also doesn't think highly of the move.
"It is tough to be a pop artist and them make country records. Country fans get it. They go, 'You're not country - you're a pop artist.' The fans make you or break you."
Romo remains friends with Underwood, who was an American Idol champion and a country singer, despite breaking up in 2007.

Carrie Underwood, introduced by the night's first performer and winner, Alicia Keys (for best female R&B vocal performance), popped up out of the Grammy stage to perform "Before He Cheats" in sexy black shorts and thigh high black boots. It was a surprising – and super sexy – contrast to the floral Zuhair Murad dress she wore on the red carpet.
Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" was named best female country vocal performance. "Before He Cheats," written by Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins, was also named best country song.
Over the last year or so Carrie Underwood has lost a significant amount of weight. She credits this change to keeping a detailed log of her food intake on a daily basis.
During an interview with Glamour Magazine, Carrie said that the log along with cardio and no meat helps her remain healthy.
“I’m slightly obsessive-compulsive about what I eat, more than I should be. I write down everything I eat,” the American Idol, 24, champ dishes in Glamour magazine’s January issue. “I started doing it last year. And in the last year is when I’ve gotten more healthy and lost weight.”
What does she eat? Well, no meat. She’s been a vegetarian since age 13. (Listen up, Chace Crawford: “I don’t think I could kiss someone after they ate a hamburger ’cause they would probably taste like it, and that would gross me out,” she tells Glamour.)
Underwood also says she she enjoys cardio and “that big exercise ball.”
