Though Kate Winslet is celebrated for her curvy figure, the 35-year-old actress tells the April issue of Glamour that she wasn't always happy with her body.
"I will tell you that when I was heavy, people would say to me -- and it was such a backhanded compliment -- they would say, 'You've got such a beautiful face,' in the way of, like, 'Oh, isn't it a shame that from the neck down you're questionable,'" she recalls.
Kate Winslet's weight isn't the only part of her appearance under scrutiny; she also denies ever having plastic surgery.
"No, I have never tried any of that stuff," she tells the mag. "I don't have parts of my body that I hate or would like to trade for somebody else's or wish I could surgically adjust into some fantasy version of what they are."
And she admits she had become familiar with losing out on prizes.
The Titanic star tells America's Glamour magazine, "I was the kid who never won the races. I never jumped the highest. I wasn't on the list of the high-achieving. That wasn't me.
"So winning the Oscar was like winning all the prizes in one single night that I never won as a kid. For me, it was an internal fist-pumping moment of 'yes'."
Kate Winslet has stepped out to her first official event with her model boyfriend Louis Dowler by her side.
The new couple made their red-carpet debut at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain, with the actress opting for a figure-hugging black dress for the occasion, the Daily Mail reports.
Their appearance comes after reports that Winslet had asked Dowler to move in with her while she shoots her next film in Chicago.
Winslet, 34, announced her separation from her director husband Sam Mendes earlier this year after seven years of marriage.

"Louis has been spending a lot of time with Kate recently and they were in New York together while he was shooting an advert. They’ve been on lots of dates and get on really well. It’s early days for them but they enjoy each other’s company," said a source.
"They have been desperate to keep the relationship under wraps so they’ve been a bit low-key so far. Louis has a good sense of humour and really is a lovely guy. They are trying to plan their diaries to make sure they can spend as much time together as they can. They hope to visit Cornwall together in the summer for a holiday," the source added.

The seven-year marriage of Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes is over.
"Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year," their lawyers said in a statement. "The split is amicable and by mutual agreement."
"Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children."
Winslet and Mendes were married back in 2003. The award-winning director and Titanic star / perennial Oscar nominee have a six-year-old son, Joe, together.
