Katharine McPhee is showing off her hot new blonde hairdo - as she talks about why she chopped off her trademark brunette locks.
The 25-year-old singer, who has been open about her battle with bulimia, opens up during an interview with US magazine Shape.
She reveals the reason behind her stunning new platinum blonde look - and how she took the plunge to change her image.
'I was feeling rebellious,' McPhee explains, describing the moment she told her hair stylist she wanted a new do.
'That's when I knew I wanted something big. So I said to my stylist: 'Just chop it all off and make me a blonde!''
McPhee then celebrated her dramatic hairstyle by buying herself a new wardrobe.
'I felt edgy and playful,' she says. 'I went out and bought new clothes for the new me. It was definitely a good thing to do.'
The former bulimic is also confident about her figure, which she keeps in tip-top shape by working out with an LA-based personal trainer.
'The more I focused on my weight the worse my bulimia got,' says McPhee who completed an outpatient programme to combat her eating disorder in 2006.
'Now I'm more easygoing. I stopped fighting myself and became more forgiving of my body.
'Ironically, the weight came off naturally through exercise but no dieting.
'At my last physical, the nurse took my vitals and said: 'Wow, you must be taking care of yourself! Your blood pressure is perfect. You're very healthy'.
'Hearing her say that made me feel better than seeing an 'ideal' number on the scale.'

Taking care of some promotional duties, Katharine McPhee made an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” last night.
The “American Idol” alum looked lovely as she sang a selection from her brand new album titled Unbroken, sporting a cleavage-baring black top with black stretch pants and black heels.
And though she is definitely blessed to have a loyal fan base, it seems the critics aren’t too fond of Ms. McPhee’s latest effort.
One review reads, “She can really sing; she just needs more distinctive material than she’s come up with here,” while another laments, “The American Idol fifth-season runner-up ... once again offers a bland, forgettable collection of sweet, soft numbers that lack distinct personality.”

Not shy when it comes to her wardrobe choices, Katharine McPhee was all about the sheer ensemble as she stepped out in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
The “American Idol” alum was decked out in a midriff baring see through shirt, which revealed a white bra paired with studded leggings and a grey vest.
She’s always happy to use her fame to benefit a good cause, and Katharine McPhee was spotted at the VH1 Save the Music Big Shopping Holiday Event in New York City.
The “American Idol” alum looked lovely as she struck a few poses for the paparazzi, sporting a black scoopneck top with a black skirt, red patterned stockings and red heels.
As for her blonde coif, Katharine says she’s loving the lighter look and having lots of fun, though it’s definitely more work to maintain than her natural dark locks.
“Depending on what I have going on, [I go to the stylist] every three-and-a-half, four weeks. Right now I’m almost at the too dark roots stage. So I get to play around with hats. Peter Savitt cuts my hair. This is the same haircut I had during Fashion Week, but it’s just been growing out and I’ve been flattening it.”

Former American Idol runner up, Katharine McPhee was running a few errands yesterday, when she ran into a gaggle of paparazzi. What she didn't expect was that a stranger would take control of the situation in a way that was maybe a little to "hands on" for Katharine.
Katharine was surprised and startled by a woman who took it upon herself to make sure she made it through the photographer crowed. The lady was shoeing them away from her and then suddenly grabs McPhee by the arm and runs with her.
I just love the expressions on Katharine's face. It goes from disgust, to confusion and then surprise.
