Hollywood South African babe Charlize Theron tried to become a German before settling in America.p>

The Academy Award winner applied for citizenship using her mother Gerda's name, who is of German descent.

But she was turned down for citizenship because her family does not live in Germany any more. So she tried her luck in the United States instead.

She reveals, "I once tried to get a German passport. Unfortunately, it didn't work because I would have needed a family member that currently lived there."
