"We didn't want to start it until we'd finished Conan," Lerner told Empire, referring to Marcus Nispel’s Conan the Barbarian remake starring Jason Momoa. "We will definitely shoot Red Sonja in between Conan and Conan 2. We already chose the director: an English guy called Simon West."
Heard is Lerner's "favorite for the role" after seeing her work in the Nu Image/Millunnium movie Drive Angry 3D alongside Nicolas Cage. Lerner does acknowledge he hasn't talked to Heard about the movie and the studio will be "talking to a few girls for the role."
